How to Retire Happy? ...It depends on you

This article is for those of you who are retired or thinking about retiring from their job. Most people I know are anxious to retire because they hate their job and the boss. Be careful it is not something you do out of despair or disgust retirement is a very serious decision.

Why did I retire ?

I chose to retire for the same reasons many of you have or will if you haven't retired yet. Because I was fed up whit my nine to five job, my boss and all the commuting day in and day out. I felt that I could put my competence and experience to a better use, continue to do what I love most in life at my own pace and work in an environment of my choice. Moreover, work with people I love and appreciate. And maybe help some people.

What happens after a few months ?

It seems everybody knew this but me. That once the excitement of my first months of retirement where passed, my motivation to get up in the morning disappeared and once I was up, I wandered about without a goal. There was no coffee breaks, no customers to call every day. The challenges that gave me a reason to get up in the morning were gone. What was happening to me, what will do I do with all this time?

The biggest mistake I made in planning my retirement was to concentrate only on the financial aspect. If you are retiring, retire to do something, don’t do like I did quit everything and make my retirement a prolonged vacation, if you do you will be looking for a new 9 to 5 job in no time.

In this world, there are many false ideas on what it takes to make a retirement succesful. Because most people imagine or dream of the marvellous and fantastic life they will have once retired. A life without an agenda, no time lost in commuting to and from work, no boss a life of travel to exotic places, spending time at a neighbourhood café, sipping on a cappuccino or laying in bed every morning. The liberty to do whatever you want whenever you want … What a life.

No matter what your talent is or the success you've had at work, Things will be different, there will be some happy and unhappy moments sometimes boring situations once you're retired. Your life will not be as you anticipated in your projections. This will happen even if you have a large circle of friends and loads of money. Even if you’re living the life you always wanted to live and have all sorts of interesting occupations. Your will need objectives or challenges in your new life. You must continue to grow as an individual. Get involved, this is your life now.Think about it!
